Schedule of Events
Friday, October 3rd
• 4pm - 6pm , Sign-in for the Read-Ins and Sleepovers
• 6pm - 9pm , Read-Ins and Sleepovers for 3rd through 8th Graders, Emporia Rec. Center. Read-ins with visiting authors are from 8:45-9:30pm - space limited to 100 students & adults.
Saturday, October 4th
• 8:00 - 11am , Autograph Sessions with 2008 Award Winners.
• 8:00 - 11am , Book and Souvenir Sales 
Books available for purchase
• 8:30 - 11am , Children's Activities
• 10am - Noon , ESU Cafeteria Lunch (must be purchased in advance)
• 12:15pm , Parade with Authors and Participants , from ESU to the William Lindsay White Arena.
• 1pm - 2:30pm , Awards Ceremony , William Lindsay White Arena.
Celebration Events
Read-Ins and Sleepovers - (Register early! Space limited to 100 students and adults) - Join fellow students for read-ins with the winning authors and sleepovers at the Emporia Recreation Center. Participants must register ahead of time and space will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. One adult sponsor must accompany every 5 students. Students will have the opportunity to meet and talk with the visiting authors during the read-ins. Autograph Sessions - (free) - Memorial Union, Emporia State University - Winning authors will be on hand Saturday morning to sign copies of their books, which will be on sale in the Union.
Book and Souvenir Sale - Memorial Union - The Town Crier Bookstore will sell copies of books by the guest authors. They will also be selling t-shirts, tote bags, and posters as souvenirs of the celebration.
Children's Activities - (free) - Memorial Union - A variety of activities will be available for student participation during the morning before the ceremony. These activities include:
• Live performances, including a storyteller
• Letter to Authors
• Emporia Arts Council- Craft relating to books
• Zoo docents with animals
• Face Painting
• Entertainment
• Question box - leave a question for one of the authors to answer during the ceremony
• School Spirit Award - judging for the School Spirit Award will occur during the morning activities and parade
ESU Cafeteria Lunch - ($4.75 per person) - For those who do not wish to leave campus for lunch, box lunches will be served in the Memorial Union Cafeteria. Lunch will include a box lunch with a turkey sandwich, chips, fruit and cookies for those wishing to stay on campus. Soft drink or water is included. Cafeteria lunches cost $4.75 per person and MUST BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE. To obtain the $4.75 price, all tickets must be paid for by a school check. Payment made by personal check will incur Kansas sales tax. Please add 6.8% sales tax. Sorry, no tickets for lunches will be sold at the door, and there will be no refunds. Parade - Join us at noon on the lawn in front of Plumb Hall on the Emporia State Campus for a parade through town to the William Lindsey White Auditorium. Feel free to wear matching t-shirts or bring signs and banners to show your school spirit! Judging for the School Spirit Award will occur during the morning activities and the parade.
Awards Ceremony - ($5 per person) - The afternoons festivities will conclude with an Awards Ceremony, at which time student representatives will present our award winning authors with their White Award Medals. The ceremony will include speeches from the authors, as well as a question and answer period. Tickets should be ordered and purchased ahead of time to guarantee seats. Tickets will be sold at the door, but seats are assigned from the front of the auditorium to the back. Order early to get the best seats. Tickets paid for by a school check will not incur sales tax. All tickets paid for by personal check or cash will incur sales tax. Please add 6.8% sales tax.
